Queens South Africa Medal clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State, South Africa 1902 (4508 PTE. W. WILSON. 14TH HUSSARS.); British War Medal (293481 CPL. W. WILSON. CHES.R.); Victory Medal (293481 CPL. W. WILSON. CHES.R.)

William Wilson was born in Edinburgh, Scotland on 19 July 1883. He attested for service with the 14th Hussars at Liverpool on the 14th March 1901 and was posted to South Africa for service in the Anglo Boer War on 25 March 1902. He was discharged to the Reserve on 14 March 1909 but, with the outbreak of the Great War in 1914, he went on to serve with the 10th Battalion, Cheshire Regiment and was taken prisoner of war on the 11th of April 1918 whilst with the HQ section.

He was held at Stalag Dulman until his release at the end of the war. Returning home on 17 January 1919, Wilson died from tuberculosis on the 2nd of November 1921, no doubt contracted due to his incarceration as a POW.

Medals are all in good condition unless otherwise indicated. Sold with some research including copied personnel file and the original medal accompanying slip sent to his widow. This contains a poignant comment on the reverse which reads "Mrs Jane Wilson - These medals are to be held in trust for Miss Alice Wilson, until she is of an age to be able to appreciate their value."
