"Edward Harry Ramm, carpenter, of Cley, said he was in his shop about 10 a.m. when William Hagon, an old man of eighty, passed the window coming from the direction of the beach. Witness thought he was in trouble, and stopped him. Hagon said, "I've happened with an accident with my gun. I've shot my hand, and I'm afraid I've killed Harry Brett."

Witness ran to a garage just as a car was leaving for the beach, and went in the car and met Slater. Witness described how he found Brett, and added that he searched for the gun and found it eleven yards from the body on the bank. It was a double-barrelled gun."

According to the 1939 Register he was a Master Builder & Decorator living at Sea View, Erpingham. He was also a member of the Observer Corps.
