Robert Shaw was born in 1926 and served with the 1st Cameronians in North West Europe in WW2. Post-war he was deployed to Palestine and later Malaya where the regiment was used to counter the communist insurgents pouring into the country. He died Accidentally at Muar in Malaysia on 30 October 1951 with a question mark next to cause of death.

The Covenanter, the Regimental Associations journal for 2008, contained the following mention of him:-

"A final tribute - I was a member of C Company stationed on the Craigielea Rubber Estate near the town of Muar, Malaya. From this location our company sent out patrols in search of bandits, or terrorists as they are known today. The object of this article is simply to pay tribute to three young men who died on operations whilst serving members of my section.

... Finally I come to Robert Shaw. Bob Shaw came from Manchester and was the oldest member of the section. Bob had seen action in North West Europe in the latter part of WWII. He was a quietly spoken reserved man. I would say he was very much a loner but he had a canny sense of humour and was very well liked in the platoon. On occasions, I would sit down and have a chat with Bob and I always felt that deep down there had been some sadness in his life which he never wanted to talk about.

Bob was a regular soldier. Yours Eddie Clark"
