James McClintock was born in Ireland on 23 August 1920. He served with the 2nd Bn Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers in WWII and was taken Prisoner of War in Sicily on 19 July 1943.
On the day he went Missing, later confirmed POW - July 19, 1943 - the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers continued their fierce battle at Lemon Bridge in Sicily, a key part of the Battle for Primosole Bridge. Having captured the bridge on July 18th, the Battalion fought off multiple determined German counter-attacks throughout July 19th, suffering heavy casualties but successfully holding the bridgehead. The battle was costly, with many casualties on both sides, and was a significant action in the wider Allied invasion of Sicily.
McClintock was held at Stalag XVIIIA Wolfsberg and Stalag IIIA Luckenwalde in Germany and was released from captivity on 19 August 1945. Post-war, he changed corps and went on to serve with the Royal Engineers in Malaya.
He was awarded the Army Long Service & Good Conduct Medal on 31 December 1957.
