William Fursman was born in Clapham, London in 1905. He attested with the Royal Artillery on 3.7.1924 and served in WWII with the 90th City of London Field Regiment, rising to the rank of Bombardier. After the war he joined the Post Office in Birmingham as a Driver in January 1949, becoming a Postman in Birmingham in 1951. He was awarded the Imperial Service Medal for long service.
The 90th Field Regiment with whom he served, was effectively the permanent replacement for the 72nd Field Regiment, which was overrun at Gazala on the 1 June 1942. It saw service with 50 Division in Sicily and NW Europe - up to 30 November 1944.
