James Sydney Cousins was born in Droxford Hants, on 12 September 1924. He attested for service in WWII with the Royal Artillery in 1942 with no. 1154803 and later transferred, on 26 November 1942, to the Royal Engineers with whom he saw service in Italy.
According to the 1939 Register Cousins was living at No.6 Council Houses in Droxford and was an Assistant Feller (Trees?) on a Smallholding.
Until her death in 2024 the house where his medals were sent was occupied by Rosemary Dora Jean Cousins - Cousins' wife.
