Stanley Joseph King was born in Mangotsfield, Bristol on 24 June 1887 and was employed with the Midland Railways in Bristol. He was granted permission to enlist in WWI by the Engineer's Office on a letter dated 22 January 1916. He served with the 119th Railway Coy. R.E. and was posted to France on 31 May 1916 and, having been sent home, was transferred back to France on 3 August 1917 - probably with the 259th Railway Company, R.E.
His address was Pleasant Road, Staple Hill, Bristol. At some point King was posted to the Water & Railway section of the RE with no. 254042. He was transferred to the Reserve on 2 October 1919. He contracted Pleurisy on duty in November 1917 and was adjudged to be 30% disabled as a result.
According to the 1921 England census, King was a General Labourer with the Midland Railway Company and was living at home with his family at the aforementioned address. He died in Downend on 12 February 1960
