Edwin Williams was born in Pontycymer, Glamorgan on 23 January 1891. A Quarryman by trade, he enlisted with the Royal Engineers on 30 March 197 and was posted to France with 325 Quarry Company, R.E. on 1 June 1917. At some point he transferred to the Railways & Waterways section of the Corps. He survived the war and was placed on the Reserve on 20 January 1919.
His residence in 1917 was Woodside Terrace, Gurney Slade, Binegar near Bath in Somerset. He was still at this address at the time the 1939 Register was compiled - recorded as a Roadstone Quarrier (Heavy Worker)
He died on 1 January 1960 and was buried in the Mendip District.
