John Thomas Burton who served with "A" Coy of the 9th Bn East Lancashire Regiment was born in Haslingden, Lancashire in 1891. He Died of Wounds in Salonika Macedonia on 27.3.1917

According to the 1911 census he was a 20 year old Cotton Operative/Weaver living at 22 Imperial Terrace Gorse Bridge, Blackburn.

On March 27, 1917, the day Burton died of wounds, the 9th (Service) Battalion of the East Lancashire Regiment was engaged in operations in the Salonika front during the First Battle of Doiran, which had begun in April 1917. The regiment was part of the 22nd Division, which served in Macedonia from 1915 to 1919. While the records don't detail specific events on that exact day, activities around that time involved improving newly won ground, constructing defensive positions, and dealing with difficult conditions like mud and machine-gun fire.
