The eligibility criteria are defined as follows: (a) Officers have completed 5 years' service since 25th February 2009 (date inclusive) i.e. the date the date that the threat level was raised to 'severe'; or (b) As a result of an or disability sustained in the execution of duty on or after 25th February 2009, officers have died or been required to resign; and the injury or disability was a direct consequence of the unique security situation prevailing in Northern Ireland; and as a consequence, failed to complete the qualifying service requirements set out in point (a) above (c) when the above criteria are met, and posthumous award made to the late officer and not to the next of kin.
