Queens South Africa Medal clasps Orange Free State, South Africa 1902 (4011 PTE. G. DIX. YORK: & LANC: REGT); Imperial Service Medal GVR (GEORGE ALBERT DIX.)
George Albert Dix was born in St Pancras, London on28 November 1873. He saw service with the 1st Battalion, Yorks & Lancs. Regiment at the tail-end of the Anglo Boer War, earning the medal for service in the Orange Free State before being returned to England.
He joined the employ of the London Post Office as a Porter (Postal Worker) in 1910 and spent his working career with them. According to the 1911 census he was a Porter living at 7 Hamilton Street, Camden Town. By the time the 1921 census called round he was still a Station Mail Porter with the General Post office and had moved two houses down to 9 Hamilton Street, Camden Town.
Dix was awarded the Imperial Service Medal in the London Gazette of 13 February 1934 as a Porter with the London Postal Service.
According to the 1939 Register he was a (Retired) Railway Porter living at 30 Bartholomew Villas, Kentish Town.
He died in Islington, London on 12 January 1950.
