Frederick Farnham was born in Ilminster, Somerset on 4 April 1872. At the age of 18 he enlisted for service with the Coldstream Guards and, after 7 years at Home, was posted to the Reserve only to be recalled on the outbreak of the Anglo Boer War. He sailed with his regiment for South Africa and was operational from 21 October 1899. He took part in many of the important early battles in the Western Theatre of the war, seeing action at Belmont and Modder River before joining the march on Pretoria and Johannesburg which cities were entered in June/July 1900.

He continued to serve in South Africa until being returned to England on 21 July 1902 - from there it was a posting to the Reserve on 2 December 1903.

Farnham had relocated to London and was employed as a Railway Porter there for many years. The 1939 Register has him living at 113 Tranmere Road, Wandsworth where he is described as being a Retired Railway Porter. He passed away on 17 May 1951 at the age of 79 and was described as a Railway Goods Foreman, retired.

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with some research including copies of his attestation papers.
