Queens South Africa Medal clasps Cape Colony, Orange Free State, Transvaal, Laing's Nek (6374 PTE. S. HICKIN. 2: E. SURREY REGT); Kings South Africa Medal clasps South Africa 1901, South Africa 1902 (6374 PTE. E. HICKIN. E.SURREY REGT)

E Hickin served with the 2nd Battalion, East Surrey Regiment in the Anglo Boer War. Although his regiment was in South Africa by November 1899 and participated in most of the seminal actions in the Natal Theatre leading up to the Relief of Ladysmith on 1 March 1900 - his clasp combination suggest a later entrance, just in time for the Laing's Nek action between 2 -10 June 1900 which saw the final expulsion of the Boers from Natal.

He went on to serve with the East Surrey's in the Orange Free State and Transvaal and was afterwards largely occupied in garrison and column work along the line, until the end of hostilities on 31 May 1902.

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with some research. Note discrepancy in initials - the number and surname are to the same man.
