Albert Percival Jefferson was born in Kennington, London in 1873. He served with both the 5th & 7th Dragoons during the Boer War and was in the Defence of Ladysmith - famous for its siege and the deprivations suffered by the men trapped there. After the siege had been lifted, Jefferson (who had a habit of transposing his names and also went by the monikers of Percival Jefferson and Percival Albert Jefferson) joined the South African Constabulary with whom he saw out the remainder of the war.

He elected to remain in South Africa and found employment with the Rand Water Board in Springs, Transvaal. He attested for service in WWI with the 2nd South African Infantry and was sent to England on 25 June 1917. On arrival he saw out the rest of the war in England and was repatriated to South Africa. Having never crossed over to the Western Front, the single British War Medal awarded to him is his sole entitlement - confirmed by his record cards which are included.

Sold with copy medal rolls, attestation papers and other documentation.
