Edwin James Jones was born in Craven Street, New Town, London on 29 December 1878. He attested for service with the 3rd Bn Middlesex Regiment and saw service with them during the Anglo Boer War in South Africa. The 2nd Battalion were heavily involved in the fighting leading up to the Relief of Ladysmith in late 1899/early 1900 and suffered severely at the battle of Spioenkop between 20 and 24 January 1900.

Jones continued with his service and was an Acting Company Sergeant Major with C Company, the 3rd Battalion, Middlesex Regiment in WWI, retaining the same number. Having been posted to France on 18 January 1915 he was Killed in Action there on 2 May 1915 (dates vary with some saying 9 May). He is remembered on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.

Also entitled to a WWI trio which is not included. Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with some research
