George Roe Banger was born on 5 May 1897 in Natal, South Africa. He served with the 1st Mounted Rifles/Natal Carbineers from 16 April 1915 until 23 July 1915, embarking for the theatre of war - German South West Africa - aboard the "Professor Woermann" on 29 May 1915, whereafter he was discharged, taking no further part in WWI. His address on attestation was c/o Mr W.R Banger, Creighton, Natal - a rural farming area in the Midlands.
Known as "Ginger", Banger worked for the South African Railways and was living at 81 Tatham Road, Prestbury, Pietermaritzburg at the time of his wedding on 28 May 1930.
A retired Engine Driver, he passed away in St Anne's Hospital, Pietermaritzburg, on 3 June 1964 at the age of 67.
Medal is in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold together with service card and other research.
