David Alexander Manson was born in Edinburgh in 1894. Having enlisted as a Gunner with the 1st Lowland Brigade of the Royal Field Artillery for service in WWI he was posted to Gallipoli on 8.6.1915. He later transferred to the Lothian & Border Horse from 1st Lowland with no. 121520. He was discharged on 26 March 1919 suffering from Malaria and Influenza and was living at 47 Louis Street, Chapeltown Road, Leeds on discharge.

He was awarded the Territorial Efficiency Medal in 1937 whilst serving with the Royal Artillery. According to the 1939 Register he was an Insurance Official in charge of a Branch Office living a 12 Saville Park Gardens, Halifax. He was also Assistant Head Warden of the local A.R.P.

He died in Halifax at the age of 78 on 7 March 1973.
