Alfred Edwin Jones was born in Lydney, Gloucestershire on 10 June 1888. He enlisted with the Royal Navy at Devonport on 11 August 1908 and served in WWI aboard various vessels and Shore Establishments including Grafton & Apollo. A Stoker, he was discharged on 9 August 1920 - after 12 years service.
Jones remained in Lydney for the rest of his life and was, according to the 1939 Register, a Seaman, Engineer, Weekly Artisan living at 15 Severn Road, Lydney. He passed away on 19 January 1948 under tragic circumstances when alighting from a bus he was accidentally knocked down by a passing lorry which broke his spine.
