Herbert James Cherry was born in Walworth, Hertfordshire on 8 July 1895. He saw service in WWI with the 203 Field Coy Royal Engineers and was discharged to the Reserve on 23 March 1919.
His address on discharge was 52 Marshall Road, Cambridge. He was still living at this address at the time the 1939 Register was compiled. On that occasion he was employed as a Permanent Way Labourer.
Cherry died in Cambridge on 14 March 1963.
