David Hutchison was born on 12 September 1895 and served in WWI with the 11th battalion, Royal Scots Fusiliers. He advanced to the rank of Lance Sergeant and was awarded the Territorial Efficiency Medal in 1932. He served in WWII with the 6th battalion Highland Light Infantry and the Argyll & Sutherland Highlanders and was awarded the Efficiency Medal in 1940. He rose to the rank of Warrant Officer2nd Class/CSM.
His single WWII medal was posted to him at 69 Durham Street, Glasgow, S.1. on 14 February 1949.
