Arthur Ernest Dobson was born in Alverstoke, Hampshire on 4 February 1887. He served with the 57th Field Coy, Royal Engineers in WWI and entered France on 16 August 1914 - less than 2 weeks after hostilities commenced. He was awarded the Medaille d' Honneur, avec Glaives (en Argent) in the London Gazette of 20 January 1919 as a Corporal (Acting Sergeant) "E" Waterlooville - one of only 390 of these honours awarded.
According to the 1939 Register he was a Storekeeper with the Royal Engineers living at 9 Nicholson Terrace, Aldershot. It was in this capacity that he was awarded the 1953 Coronation Medal - to Ernest Dobson.
He passed away in Winchester on 16 June 1966.
