Eric Hulks was born in Ridge, Hertfordshire on 23 July 1896. He enlisted for service in WWI with the Royal Fusiliers (1st London Regiment) on 1 September 1914 and was posted to France on 10 March 1915. On 3 April 1917 he transferred to the Royal Flying Corps with no. 57896 and the rank of 2nd Air Mechanic. With the move over to the newly-designated Royal Air Force on 1 April 1918 he was an Air Corporal, mustered as a Fitter with no. 401281
He was awarded the Long Service medal as a Flight Sergeant on 2 April 1936. His home address, according to the 1939 Register, was 175 Leigham Court Road, Norwood, London. His wife, Ivy, was at home at the time.
With the advent of WWII Hulks was commissioned as a Flying Officer, on probation wef 17 March 1941. This was made substantive on 1 27 September 1944 whilst he was with the Technical Branch with no. 45924. He retired as a Squadron Leader.
Hulks died in Brighton, Sussex on 2 February 1955
