William Henry Bethell was born in Marylebone, London in 1899. He joined the Royal Navy in 1917 and served as a Carpenter's Mate before transferring to the Royal Fleet Reserve in 1922, with whom he earned the Long Service & Good Conduct Medal. He went on to serve in WWII, primarily aboard Cyclops, the Submarine Depot Ship, and was released from service in 1945. He is possibly the William Henry Bethell who was commissioned a Supply Lieutenant in 1952.
He died in Colchester in January 1991
