Percy Frederick Cooke was born in Lancashire in 1889. A career soldier, he attested with the 1st Devons going with them to France on 22.8.1914. He was awarded the LSGCM 1926 and commissioned an officer in 1928. He re-enlisted for service in WWII and was commissioned being promoted to Major (Quartermaster) with the Devonshire Regiment with effect from 1 August 1940 in the LG of 30 July 1940.
According to the 1939 Register he was a Cotton Cloth Salesman living at 5 Woodside Terrace, Nelson in Lancashire.
