Albert Daniel Hanshaw was born in Acton, Middlesex in 1899. He attested for service with the Lancashire Fusiliers on 28.8.1916 seeing Home Service until being posted to the British Expeditionary Force on 4 April 1918. He served a total of 345 days in the theatre of war before being sent home on 14 March 1919. He saw service with the 2nd/8th Royal Fusiliers. Discharged on 14 March 1919 he re-enlisted and was with the Royal Fusiliers in Iraq in 1920. Having attained the rank of Colour Sergeant and having been awarded the LSGCM in 1935 under A.O. 198, Hanshaw took his discharge from the army in 1939 only to re-enlist when WWII broke out. He was commissioned a Lieutenant & Quartermaster in 1939 rising to Major in 1947. He only saw home service in WWII
His papers confirm the award of the Efficiency Medal with Territorial bar - this last is not with the group.
He passed away on 11 January 1964 whilst living in Hounslow.
