Arthur Lionel Linthwaite was born in London on 10 August 1895. He served in WWI with the 30th Battalion Machine Gun Corps and the Manchester Regiment. He was reported WIA on 21.10.1918 and was awarded the Territorial War Medal and the Territorial Efficiency Medal with the Middlesex Regiment whilst serving in Egypt.
The 30th Battalion MGC was formed from 21, 89, 90 and 226 MG Companies. It was broken up on 13 May 1918 (in which majority, 540 men, moved to 31 Battalion MGC) and replaced on 29 June 1918 by “A” Battalion MGC - formed 21 May 1918 by XIX Corps from 221, 262, 271 and 272 MG Companies arriving in France from Egypt.
He was discharged on 8 February 1919. He passed away in Harrow, Greater London in January 1979
