Alastair Morrison Drysdale was born in Hillhead, Glasgow in 1915. A commissioned officer, he entered WWII with the 5th Battalion, Highland Light Infantry and saw fighting in WWII in France & Germany as a Company Commander. Mentioned in Dispatches, he was awarded theChevalier of the Order of Leopold II with palm and Croix de Guerre with palm for NW Europe in 1945. The nomination for the above awards in October 1945 read:

"This officer has served as a Company Commander throughout the campaign. He played a prominent part and particularly distinguished himself in the operation to free the port of ANTWERP. He took part in the landings on S BEVERLAND and WALCHEREN where his personal gallantry as a leader made him regardless of both his own safety and the dangers to which he was exposed. 

In the operations which finally pushed the enemy across the RHINE and removed the threat to Belgium his cheerfulness and devotion to duty was remarkable." 

He was Mentioned in Dispatches in the LG 4 April 1946 

In later years he served as Chairman of Wm. Lowe & Co. Ltd. 

He died in Haymarket on 7 May 1994 (The Scotsman 11 May 1994)
