Harold Murgatroyd was born in Halifax, Yorkshire on 2 April 1890. A House Painter by trade, he served in the Balkans in WWI and was awarded the Serbian Gold Medal by the King of Serbia in the London Gazette of 19 February 1917. He was stationed in Malta at the time the award was announced.

According to the 1921 census he was a Painter in the employ of his father, Arthur, and living with his parents at 25 Kings Cross Street, Halifax. 

Eighteen years later, at the time of the 1939 Register he was still a House Painter living with his wife at 8 Mayfield Grove, Halifax.

He died in 1959.

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with some research.
