Augustus William Henry Routley was born in Bampton, Oxfordshire in 1875. Having wed in 1900 he was widowed two years later in 1902. He married again in Exeter Cathedral in 1904.

At the age of 40 he was posted to France with the Army Veterinary Corps on 19 May 1915. A Sergeant, he was recognised for his service by the King of the Belgians with two decorations, the Decoration Militaire and the Croix de Guerre.

Having survived the war he returned to Exeter in Devon where, according to the 1921 census, he was employed as a Salesman of poultry and game. He died in Hill View, East Wonford, Exeter on 12 August 1923.

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with some research.
