An unusual combination of Long Service awards to John Newton Barkes who was born in Bishopwearmouth, Sunderland in 1893. He went to France on 19.4.1915 and was discharged to the Reserve in 1919. He must have re-enlisted at some point as his TFEM was awarded in 1921 and his Efficiency Medal in 1932. He served with the RASC in WWII and was awarded the War and Defence Medals
The 1939 Register shows that his wife, whom he had married the year before, Mrs Catherine Barkes was living at 17 Granville Gardens, Jesmond, Newcastle - the exact address her husbands WWII medals were posted to.
Barkes passed away in Newcastle on 28 May 1953.
Medals are in good condition unless otherwise indicated. Sold with some research.
