R Webley served with the Warwickshire Yeomanry (Royal Armoured Corps) in WWII. He enlisted for service on 11 April 1940 and was posted to the Reserve on 7 July 1946.

The Warwickshire Yeomanry played a significant role during World War II, initially serving as a cavalry regiment before converting to motorized infantry and later an armoured regiment. They saw action in the Middle East, including Iraq and Syria, and notably fought in the North African Campaign at the Second Battle of El Alamein. Later, they participated in the Italian Campaign before returning to the UK as a tank holding regiment.

The regiment mobilized in September 1939 and was initially attached to the 1st Cavalry Division in Palestine. In 1941, they lost their horses and were converted to motorized infantry, serving in Iraq and Syria, later that year, they were ordered to convert to a tank regiment, joining the 9th Armoured Brigade with whom they saw service in North Africa. They fought with distinction at the Second Battle of El Alamein in October 1942, where they lost nearly all their tanks before moving on to Italy where, after refitting and training, they were deployed in May 1944, participating in the Italian Campaign as part of the 9th Armoured Brigade. The regiment returned to the UK in October 1944, becoming a tank holding regiment.

His medals were posted to him on 14 March 1950 to 2 Swedish Timber House, Todenham, nr Morton-in-Marsh, Gloucestershire. The Swedish Timber Houses were erected to address the housing shortage for returning servicemen after WWII.
