Warwick Ellis Buxton was born in Bloemfontein, South Africa in 1924. He enlisted with the RNR/SA Navy striaght from school on 1 April 1941 and saw service aboard the Defensively Equipped Merchant Ship "Vilja" (which was later sunk by a German U-Boat) and a variety of Shore Establishments. His service papers indicate that his overseas service was:

- In the Mediterranean, based at Port Said 19.7.1941 - 12.2.1942

- In the Indian Ocean, based at Bombay 1.3.1942 - 1.9.1942

- In the Atlantic Ocean and North Africa 19.12.1942 - 13.7.1943

- In Great Britain 31.7.1943 - 22.11.1943

- In the Atlantic Ocean and West Africa 22.11.1943 - 23.10.1944

- In the Atlantic and Indian Ocean 31.3.1945 - 20.11.1945 whereafter he was discharged

Post-war he was employed as a Health Inspector in the Butterworth are of the Transkei - operating from East London. He emigrated to the UK in 1960 and died in Epping Forest  in 2007
