Arthur Joseph Green was born in Netherfield, Notts in 1893. At the time of the 1911 census he was an Employee of the Railways. He served with the 2nd Bn Bedfordshire Regiment in WWI and was posted to France on 21 April 1915.
He died of Wounds on 18 May 1915 - on which day the 2nd Battalion Bedfordshire Regiment was involved in the Battle of Festubert, specifically during an unsuccessful advance due to faulty intelligence. They were part of the 10th Brigade, 4th Division, and were tasked with supporting the 7th Division's attack. The battle resulted in significant casualties for the 2nd Bedfords, with one officer and 48 other ranks killed, including 29 on the same day, during operations around Ronssoy.
