Edward Loader was born in Winchester, Hants. in 1875. He was a Waiter by occupation on 15.11.1899, when he attested for service in the Anglo Boer War with Marshall's Horse and was with them when he succumbed to disease in Bloemfontein, Orange Died of Disease, Bloemfontein on 14.6.1900. This was a couple of months after Lord Roberts had entered the city. The Boers damaged the water supply and a large number of troops and civilians contracted Enteric Fever as a result, leading to a high mortality rate.

His medal and two clasps were sent to his father, Mr. E. Loader, 16 Hyde Close, Winchester, Hampshire.
