Miniature Medal

Instituted on 14th October 1914 for award to Petty Officers and ratings of the Royal Navy, NCO's and other ranks of the Royal Marines and all other personnel holding corresponding ranks in the naval forces.

The DSM was expanded during World War Two to include the Merchant Navy and Army, the WRNS and RAF personnel serving aboard ships.

Approximately 7100 were awarded between 1938 and 1949.
