The Recommendation for Hodgson's BEM, which was Strongly Recommended on 20 December 1962, reads as follows:
'Dumfries - May 1961 to present time:
Warrant Officer Hodgson L. served in the A.T.S. and WRAC from Sept. 1941 until Aug. 1949, during which time she reached the rank of Sub. Sgt. She was discharged in 1949 and re-engaged on a Type "T" engagement with the Territorial Army. After 4 years the engagement changed to regular Type "R" and on this engagement WO II Hodgson has continued to serve. During the past 20 months, as it has been impossible to find a Territorial Army Officer, she has been in sole charge of a Women's Army Corps Territorial Army Company Headquarters, and an isolated platoon at Dumfries.
This unit is situated 73 miles from its parent Headquarters in Edinburgh. She is permanent staff clerk for the company and in addition is responsible for the recruiting of clerks, cooks and stewardesses in the wide area which she covers. Although this is very much more than is normally expected of a Warrant Officer, she has caried out these duties in an exemplary manner with extreme efficiency and devotion to duty. She shows a very real and personal interest in the well-being of her subordinates which reflects very much in manner and devotion to duty of those who work under her.
In addition to these duties WO II Hodgson is the Scottish Command tennis and badminton representative to which she gives a great deal of her time. She sacrifices any personal interests to the cause of maintaining the highest possible standards in the interest of the Service as a whole."
The award appeared in the LG of 8 June 1963.
