John Reginald Wass, a 35 year old Cattle Breeder born in York enlisted on 17th February 1915 and was posted a into 25th (Service) Bn Royal Fusiliers (Frontiersmen) appointed CQMS on 19th February, embarked with the battalion for East Africa 10th April 1915. The battalion disembarked at Mombassa on 4th May 1915. He served throught with the battalion in Africa until hospitalised 2 weeks due to an unspecifed ailment on 22nd May 1915. Then again for week March 1916 Dysentry, 2 more unspecified ailments April and May 1916 and finally two months May to July 1916 Malaria. Certified medically unfit and added to the Unattached list for duty with details 15th August 1916. Embarked for England 8th May 1917, arrived UK on an unspecified date.
Transferred to 51st Bn. Struck off strength for desertion 18th July 1918 , returned to strength 17th August 1918. Whilst awaiting DCM for "Desertion" admitted to Eastern General Hospital, Cambridge 24th August 1918. Transferred to Army Reserve Class Z 8th March 1919.
