General Service Medal clasps Iraq, N.W. Persia (LIEUT. A.E. ARMITAGE); India General Service Medal clasp Waziristan 1921-24 (LIEUT. A.E. ARMITAGE. R.E.)

Austin Edward Armitage was born in Farnham,  Surrey in 1898. He was commissioned a Lieutenant and served in the Salonika theatre of the war from 15 December 1918 - the date that appears on his Medal Index Card. If this were to be true it means he only entered the theatre after the war was over on 11 November 1918. He continued on in the service and was active in Iraq, North West Persia & Waziristan.

Although unconfirmed, he would appear to have served in Burma in WWII.

According to the London Gazette of 25 June 1948 "The King has been pleased to give instructions for the appointment of Colonel Austin Edward Armitage to be a Member of the Executive Council of the Colony of the Seychelles."

He died on the island on 17 April 1951.

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with research and a corresponding pair of miniature medals. Also included is a For Loyal Service lapel badge and a ribbon bar indicating possible WWII service in Burma.
