Alan Keig Bott was born in Douglas, Isle of Man on 17 February 1920. He served in Africa in WWII and was commissioned into the RAF with whom he served on the Arabian Peninsula. He was transferred to the Equipment and then to the Secretarial Branch of the RAF in 1955 (LG 29 May 1956) as Flying Officer, Branch List.

His family papers are kept by the Museum on the Isle of Man - the catalogue description for which reads:

"Present also is a copy of Alan's birth certificate (b 17 February 1920), 2008 correspondence regarding the offer from the Cabinet Office of an MBE to Alan (later withdrawn after his death) and a copy of the order of service of thanksgiving used at his funeral in Yorkshire held on 9 April 2008.

Postcards depict the Crescent Hotel, Palace ballroom, Queens Promenade and Sunny Crest Hotel/Boarding House on Strathallan Crescent, Douglas. A small brochure promotes the Belgrave Private Hotel, Douglas (annotated with prices charged).

Lastly there is a pencil caricature depiction of Alan in the uniform of a Flight Lieutenant, drawn by Pat Rooney in 1956. It has a triskele symbol in the bottom left hand corner. This illustration appears on the front cover of 'Some Files from my Cabinet'.

It would seem from the above that he was in the running for a MBE but this did not materialise. He died in 2008

Medals are in good condition unless indicated otherwise. Sold with basic research.
