Mordaunt Owen Bird was born in Rugby on 6 March 1919. He served in WWII with the Worcester Regiment and later, transferred to the 23 Indian Division Provost Unit CMP (Corps of Military Police) on 30 April 1941. He was discharged on 20 April 1946.

His WWII medals were sent to him on 20 January 1950 to 35 Newbold Road, Rugby, Warwickshire. He retired after 30 years police service in 1969 and was presented with cufflinks as a farewell gift. He died in in Warwickshire in 1993
