Robert Friend Woodman was born in Plymouth, on 7 March 1916. According to the 1921 census he was living in the Children's Home at 2 Gifford Terrace Road, Plymouth.
He initially attested for service with the Royal Artillery, seeing service with them early in WWII. He transferred to the Sherwood Foresters on 10 March 1945 and was with them, post-war, in Palestine. He was awarded the Efficiency Medal in 1946 and the General Service Medal in 1949.
He passed away in Plymouth on 12 January 1989.
