Brown Mosedi was born in Kimberley, South Africa in 1904. A Miner by occupation, he enlisted with the Native Military Corps for service in February 1941 and was assigned to 8 Mobile Workshops, 2nd S.A. Division. He disembarked at Tewfik in the Middle East and was taken POW at Tobruk on 20.6.1942 when General Klopper, seeing no alternative, surrendered the garrison to the Italians there.
One hears very little about the hardships black POW's endured at the hands of their captors - Mosedi was taken to POW campos in Italy and then, after Italy capitulated in September 1943, to Germany.
He was released from captivity on 2 November 1944 and returned to South Africa via Egypt where, he was discharged on 11 September 1945. He spent time in hospital on his return to South Africa for Traumatic Osteo Arthritis to his wrist requiring an operation. His address on discharge was 383 Rosa Street, No 2 Location, Kimberley
