Frederick Valentine Cobley Rench, known to all as Valentine, was born in Somerton, Oxfordshire in 1903. According to the 1939 Register he was a Director of a Textile Manufacturing concern living at 24 Mitchley Hill, Croydon, Surrey.

He served in WWII with the Royal Pioneer Corps and saw action in the Western Desert earning the 8th Army clasp to his Africa Star and later, in France & Germany. He was reported Missing in Action in the Middle East on 2 October 1943.
His medals were posted to him to Timbers, 12 Caledon Road, Beaconsfield, Bucks. (as per the box of issue) on 2 July 1948.
Rench passed away on 16 November 1971 in Shipston on Stour, Warwickshire.
