William George Young was born in Great Yarmouth, Norfolk on 16 January 1912. He attested for service in the Royal Artillery on 13 May 1927 and saw service with the 3rd (Coruna) Light Battery on the North West Frontier in 1936/37. He was awarded the India General Service medal on 30 November 1938 as part of the 6th Field Regiment. 

With the advent of WWII he served with the 33rd Field Regiment, R.A. from 23 March 1944, seeing service in France & Germany. He was Wounded in Action there on 23 June 1944. Young was awarded his Long Service & Good Conduct Medal in 1948.

He died in Gosport, Hants on 4 February 1981.
