Henry George Edwards served with both the Royal Engineers as well as the Oxford and Bucks Light Infantry. He was born in Finsbury, London in 1904 and enlisted with the RE on 31.5.1926. He transferred to the Oxford & Bucks serving with them in Burma in 1930/32.
He was back in action in WWII serving with the Royal Engineers Docks Coy/ 902 Stevedore Coy.
The Civil Defence Medal (CDM) is a long service award by the United Kingdom, instituted by Queen Elizabeth II in March 1961 and awarded for 15 years continuous service in a variety of different organisations including the Civil Defence Corps (CD), the Auxiliary Fire Service (AFS), the National Hospital Service Reserve (NHSR) and the United Kingdom Warning and Monitoring Organisation. It is unknown in what capacity Edwards served to qualify for this unnamed medal.
