1939-45 Star; Africa Star; War Medal 1939-45 - all unnamed as awarded in original box of issue addressed to Mrs V.J. Parkin, 5 Beckenham Rd., West Wickham, Kent. The reverse of the box indicates that the recipient was with the R.A.O.C.
Unravelling the identity of who these medals were issued to has proved challenging. The 1939 Register records that a Vera Jean Chaplin (who later married a Sidney Arthur Parkin) born in 1920 was living at 134 Central Hill, Lambeth. This lady, as has been mentioned, married Parkin. This Parkin, according to the 1939 Register, was a Thermometer Tube Warehouseman living at Carnegie Street, Barnsbury, Islington. Vera and Sidney married in July 1951.
