J49382 PO Charles Henry Jarvis RN Born Torquay Devon 9.10.1899 He enlisted as a Boy in 1916 and officially joined on 9.10.1917. He served aboard HMS Penelope in WWI and, having continued his service, served with HMS Tyne in WWII. He was pensioned on 15.9.1945
His LSGCM was issued on 23.11.1932 to HMS Vivid.
According to the 1939 Register he was a C.P.O. aboard HMS Drake living at 64 Cotehele Avenue, Plymouth.
Jarvis served aboard HMS Tyne (Echo) from September 1941 and would have been aboard on 19 December 1941 when she was detached with HMS EDINBURGH and HMS ESCAPADE on arrival off Kola Inlet to escort two Russian mercantiles to Murmansk. She came under air attack from 2 Ju88 and during avoiding action at high speed two men were swept overboard from the foc'sle. Enemy driven off by Russian Hurricanes and the arrival of HMS EDINBURGH in area.
He died in Torbay Devon in 1972.
