68698 E.R.A. Kenneth Rigby Griffin RNVR (SA) and South African Naval Forces was born in Port Elizabeth on 12.6.1921 A Boilermaker with the South African Railways at Uitenhage in the Eastern Cape, he attested for service on 1.3.1941 and served aboard various vessels including HMS Nelson, Amazon & Bonaventure. He was discharged, Medically Unfit on 4.6.1944.

When completing his application for campaign medals he claimed service with the R.N.V.R. (S.A.) from 1.3.1941 - 1.5.1941. From 10.5.1941 he served aboard the Battleship Nelson operating from Gibraltar in the Mediterranean Sea and Atlantic Ocean. He was seconded to the Royal Navy on 11.6.1943 until 6.6.1944 serving aboard the Destroyer Amazon and HMS Hawkins operating out of Greenoch in Scotland into the Atlantic and was in the Arctic Convoys as well. 

He continued to work for the South African Railways after his discharge and died from a Coronary Thrombosis in Windhoek, South West Africa (Namibia) at the young age of 37 on 15.3.1959.
