John Battles was born in Dundee on 3.6.1914. He served with the 2nd Bn Royal Scots having enlisted on 13 June 1940. He was Missing in Action in Italy on 30.11.1944 and was determined to be a Prisoner of War not long after. He was held at Stalag VIIA in Moosburg. He completed the Liberated Prisoner of War Questionnaire on 13.4.1945 wherein he confirmed he was put to work at a Work Camp in Mittenwald, Bavaria but suffered o hardships at the hands of his captors.
Having been released after the war he was discharged on 14.4.1946. His medals were sent to him at the above address in 1950.
