The 1/4th Battalion RWS Regiment (Queen's Regiment) was formed in August 1914 in Croydon and was part of the Surrey Brigade, Home Counties Division. They were sent to India on 29 October 1914, remaining there throughout the war. The Division was broken up on arrival in Bombay.
From December 1914 – January 1915 they were with the Secunderabad Brigade, 9th (Secunderabad) Division.
January to April 1915 in Lucknow Brigade, 8th (Lucknow) Division. Transferred in April to Allahabad Brigade in same Division. January 1916 to Peshawar Brigade then Nowshera Brigade in 1st (Peshawar) Division. Left March 1917.
Also entitled to a British War Medal and Victory Medal
